Richard Cuthbert (he of Cuthbert & The Night Walkers fame), recently released his new single ‘Tomato Plants’, the second taste of his new album Daydreaming which is due out on November 5th. Now we get to experience the juicy video clip for the song.
The new single ‘Tomato Plants‘ is another slice of concise and super-catchy indie guitar pop from Richard. The song ebbs and flows on the interplay between his perfect fuzzed-out and jangly chord changes and the way he transforms an ode to those red fruit (that we use as vegetables) into swooning and swirling pop-tastic melodies. As usual, Richard wrangles the balance between hooks, humour and energetic indie rock with effortless ease.
“I came up with the chorus of this song in the kitchen of an old share house I lived in. I had recently spent a bit of time clearing the garden beds in the backyard that hadn’t been cleared for a while. Pretty much straight away, as they do, tomato seedlings started to appear out of nowhere. The persistence of these weedy nightshades was inspiring, but as I found out, they didn’t produce near enough fruit for a salad.”
The video clip, directed by Ben Romalis, features Richard’s trademark humour and irreverence as the band (Joe Driver, Joe Muller) kick out the jams in a warehouse space with Richard casually dressed as a giant tomato!
‘Tomato Plants‘ is out now, Daydreaming is out Nov 5th via Broken Stone Records/Remote Control Records.
