Animal Collective return with their brand new single ‘Prester John’, the first taste of their new album Time Skiffs and the first new music from the band since Painting With in 2016. The song retains the band’s signature psychedelic and kaleidoscopic sound, loping along on a trip-hop beat and a warm synth and bass propulsion. It reminded me of Clinic in parts but still with that avant-pop adventurism that they share with the likes of Grizzly Bear.
Time Skiffs (due out February 4 on Domino) features nine new tracks, recorded by Avey Tare, Deakin, Geologist, and Panda Bear across the course of 2020 and mixed by Marta Salogni. Today they share the record’s first single ‘Prester John’, a track created by weaving together two songs, one written by Avey Tare and one by Panda Bear. ‘Prester John’ comes alongside a video directed by Jason Lester.
