NSW GROUP JUNO POINT RELEASE HYPNOTIC NEW SINGLE ‘SKIMMING’

All the members of Juno Point have spent countless hours and years with other bands on the Australian indie music scene. Listeners may be familiar with names such as Ukiyo-e, The Cannanes, El Mopa and Tweezer – all bands to tread the boards of bars, clubs and venues across Australia at various times.

Now the quartet of Steve FosterNik DevenishMatt Grant and Bon King have come together as Juno Point, exploring the sonic terrain of post rock, slowcore and atmospheric indie rock. Their sound is sparse and intimate yet it creates a widescreen mood of subtle drama, similar to the way that artists such as Will Oldham (Palace Brothers, Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy) and Jason Molina (Songs:Ohia, Magnolia Electric Co) create both space and weight in their songs.

The new single ‘Skimming‘ possesses a sound and mood akin to Bill Callahan fronting Mogwai. It finds the group settling into restrained and beautifully hypnotic grooves that drift between languid, cascading guitar notes and more urgent passages that perfectly convey the emotional and intellectual dynamics of the song.

Written and sung by Devenish, he explains that“my words tend to swim a pond of ambiguity. Plucked out and strung together, barely written. Substances and perceptions anthropomorphised into songs of love/hate.” So in essence, ‘Skimming’ is about “the longing and the crush in a relationship with sleep.”

The new single follows ‘Nazare‘, with both tracks appearing on their new album Lost Along A River, set for release digitally on February 12th.
