A great sound on this brand new single from Wellington, NZ band Hans Pucket. ‘No Drama‘ is the title track from their forthcoming new LP due out on on USA label Carpark Records on November 4th.
The single brilliantly blends crunchy guitar rock with soft art-pop shapes and a widescreen indie retro-futurist aesthetic. There are strings, horns and one can pick out a faint hint of Split Enz and Talking Heads in the DNA of the guitar and the song’s use of rhythm. It’s very much a continuation of the progressive indie sound of fellow Wellingtonians The Phoenix Foundation.
“This song is about social anxiety and being surrounded by very unhappy people on the internet,” frontman Oliver Devlin explains. “Sometimes, of course, very rightfully hurt people are dealing with their experiences of injustice, inequality or trauma. I think part of the song is being overwhelmed by all of this, the desire to bury my head in the sand and the fear of who I could become if I did switch off from it all”.
‘No Drama’ follows the album’s first single ‘My Brain Is A Vacant Space‘ and their 2018 debut album Eczema.
