Melbourne musician Suzie Stapleton has only just come onto our radar but it only took 30 seconds of the first song we heard to get drawn into her dark and moody sound that equally draws on gothic blues and swamp rock, mixing it all up in a contemporary rock miasma. The thing that anchors it all is her jaw dropping voice with its rich and raw tone, not afraid to dig down to the low notes or reach skywards with an open-throated howl. Think Marianne Faithful, Chrissy Amphlett and Renee Geyer. There are clear musical influences like Nick Cave, The Dirty Three and The Drones at play but Stapleton easily creates her own distinct and emotionally-charged musical identity.

Her EP from October 2012 Obladi Diablo is available via her Bandcamp page for the price of your choice plus you can also pick up her 2009 EP 45 Revelations Per Minute.
