NEWS: Half A Cow film fundraiser in Sydney

Screen Shot 2012-12-11 at 9.42.04 PM

If It’s Catchy, It Means You Stole It is the title of a feature documentary on Sydney musician/independent record label boss Nic Dalton that is currently being put together by Jarrad Kennedy (director/producer) and Robert McCafferty (producer) for a 2013 release.

Nic Dalton has played in over 65 bands, most notably The Lemonheads in the early 1990’s. Dalton also co-founded independent record label Half A Cow with Miles Ferguson in 1990, which has gone on to release over 150 titles in it’s 22 year history. Interviews with key figures in the Dalton/Half A Cow story will be interwoven with animation, rare unseen footage and performances.

To raise funds for the film a gig is happening in Sydney at The Lansdowne Hotel on Friday 21st December featuring the original lineup of Swirl, Whopping Big Naughty, Tom Morgan (solo) Peter Fenton with Jason Walker and David Lane as well as Smudge’s Adam Yee spinning tunes.

If you are in Melbourne you’ll also be able to get along to a fundraiser gig at The Tote on January 25th featuring Swirl, Khancoban and many others to be announced.

You can keep up with news about the project by following their Facebook Page.

REVIEW: Nirvana | Live At The Paramount

Just got back from a screening of this as part of the celebrations for the 20th anniversary of the release of Nirvana’s Nevermind. It was definitely worth seeing it in the cinema to get that ‘in your face’ volume which is kind of essential for music like this. One of things that separates this concert film from others of the band is that it is the only one recorded on film – giving it a fantastic look with cameramen dashing franticly around the stage trying to capture the show. As  document of a band only months into the release of an album that has now sold over 30 million it is a fantastic look at what a mass of energy they could create out of a few chords, some grinding primal bass and an absolutely pummelling display of drumming from Dave Grohl. They cover most of Nevermind, some tracks from Bleach and a couple off the Incesticide comp but it all fits together perfectly. There weren’t really any lulls in the set other than the wayward finale of Endless, Nameless – but you kind of expect that from that track. Truly visceral stuff and a perfect reminder of what a great band they were when it came down to the music.

DOWNLOAD: Radiohead | Live in Prague Film

Radiohead are continuing their proclivity for finding interesting ways to get their product out to the masses. Now they have released a Live In Prague concert film online for anyone and everyone to download or stream by song on You Tube. The band gave 50 fans cameras to film the show from the audience and then edited the footage together with audio from the desk. It looks and sounds fantastic – a cool way to deliver the concert experience without the over the top camera angles and feeling that you are watching a tv broadcast.
