Margaret Glaspy‘s Emotions and Math album from 2016 was one of my favourite albums of that year. Great guitars, heady melodies and fine songwriting right across it. 2020’s Devotion didn’t quite hit the spot in the same way as her debut but I’m really digging the sound of this new single ‘Act Natural‘.

The song is the first single from her forthcoming LP Echo The Diamond, which will be released on August 18th. There’s a cool indie rock sound going on. The guitars are ragged and raw yet still cultivated and ordered. Riffs churn and tumble forth over a solid rhythm section as Glaspy exultantly sings of the strange thrill of infatuation.

 “I wrote it in the afternoon in the back of a tour bus and the riff came separately when I got home. It is one of my favourite songs on the record to play live,” says Glaspy.

Echo The Diamond was produced by Glaspy with co-production from her partner, guitarist/composer Julian Lage.
