This week’s Last Night features Perth kids Young Revelry (plus Radio Star) who are coming off a big 2010 where they released their debut EP You And I and scored some sweet support slots with the likes of Shihad and Yves Klen Blue. The lead single from the EP is a catchy as hell post punk tune with faint echoes of The Wedding Present and various NZ guitar bands – albeit in a more shiny contemporary world. Grab a free MP3 of it after the interview. We laid they intellectual powerhouse of a questionnaire Before Last Night at the feet of guitarist Pete Leveson-Gower and this was his response…
Do any of you have any pre-gig rituals?
Nah not really.. Beers and corn chips.
What do you personally bring to the sound of your band?
Loud guitar and feedback, and a creamy ‘Dianna Ross’ style backing harmony.
In 12 months time, what do you hope to have achieved musically?
A good piece of art and some money for dinner, and 14 etudes in F# minor.
If you could curate Last Night, who would be your dream line-up?
Have Chopin open the show, then have the Sex Pistols second on the bill to heat up the stage a bit and finish off with some Sly to end the night with a bang.
The last song you wrote, what is it about?
About getting shot whilst naked in front of a large crowd and becoming an internet sensation overnight because of it.
Recording/Touring – if you had to choose one which would it be?
Recording whilst touring.
Which Australian artist/band is setting the standard at the moment?
Standard: Income? Artistic content? Radio play? Popularity? Etc.. Any Australian band expressing themselves and conceiving their own idea or creation, regardless of what template popular radio wants or plays, is setting a standard for me. Attempting to redefine what is popular. But I’d imagine Short Stack turn over quite a bit each year as well. There are lots of standards to be set.
