INTERVIEW: Before Last Night | Megastick Fanfare

Megastick Fanfare unleash their indietronica on Last Night this Friday at The Gaelic. They’ll be playing live alongside MNDR from the USA so it is bound to be a night of rhythm and melody. Megastick Fanfare’s Sam Goldsmith took a run at DS’ Q+A and here’s what he had to say…

1. Do any of you have any pre-gig rituals? Occasionally we …

2. What do you personally bring to the sound of your band? I bring two synths and some poorly developed drumming skills.

3. In 12 months time, what do you hope to have achieved musically? In 12 months time we will have released and toured our first album, and plan to have completed writing if not recorded if not released if not gone triple platinum with our second. We have a few intensive writing and recording periods coming up this year.

4. If you could curate Last Night, who would be your dream line-up?  The Parking Lot Experiments.

5. The last song you wrote, what is it about? One of the last songs we wrote is called ‘Ember Blend,’ because the opening section sounds the way that glowing embers being stirred into vanilla yoghurt looks.

6. Recording/Touring – if you had to choose one which would it be? We have an album tour coming up in winter, but that aside, this year we are focusing on finishing several works-in-progress, and working towards a second release. So recording is the current priority.

7. Which Australian artist/band is setting the standard at the moment? The Parking Lot Experiments.
