80’s pop music in New Zealand was a strange bird. While Flying Nun was creating a scene that would cement its place in musical history, other NZ bands were taking in the influences of the UK charts and developing their own local versions. DD Smash, The Narcs, Dance Exponents and The Mockers were writing pop based songs with choruses you could sing along to on your walkman or in the pub.
