Terrible news today that another musical genius has left this world in 2010. We have already lost Rowland S. Howard, Vic Chesnutt and Jay Reatard and now the family and friends of Mark Linkous are mourning his suicide.

His family have released a statement saying…

It is with great sadness that we share the news that our dear friend and family member, Mark Linkous, took his own life today,” reads a statement from his family. “We are thankful for his time with us and will hold him forever in our hearts. May his journey be peaceful, happy and free. There’s a heaven and there’s a star for you.

Linkous released four incredible albums of skewed indie that were rich with imagery and drew in pop, psych and americana influences. He also collaborated with Fennesz for the In The Fishtank series and released Dark Night Of The Soul with Danger Mouse and David Lynch.
