Seattle’s Sunny Day Real Estate were a fairly unique band who through the 90s released consistently great albums. Enigmatic lead singer Jeremy Enigk wrote compelling words and sang them with a life affirming voice that soared into a fantastic falsetto.Musically they mixed grunge with time signature changes and an emotional delivery.

When they split, Nate Mendel and William Goldsmith went on to form the rhythm section for Foo Fighters and Enigk pursued a solo career that has had some intermittent highlights.

Now the band has reformed, at this stage some tour dates (no word of future recordings yet). At this stage their first show back will be playing the Paramount Theater in Seattle on October 16th with some dates penciled in for Atlanta, San Francisco and Utah in October.

UPDATE:

Sub Pop have today announced that SDRE will be doing a 20 date US tour starting Sept 17th. In addition, Sub Pop Records will re-issue both Diary and the band’s second full-length album, commonly known as LP2 (or “The Pink Album” for its entirely pink cover). Both re-mastered albums will include rare bonus tracks as well as newly written liner notes and will be released on both CD and LP Sept. 15, 2009, just prior to the start of the tour.
