Reunion tours are a common occurrence these days and for the most part they are performed by commercially successful bands trading on nostalgia. In that context it was a pleasant surprise to see Flipper hit Australian shores to remind people of their standing as one of the true originators of US punk and deliver what they themselves called a “true Flipper show”.
Perhaps the biggest disappointment of the evening was the size of the crowd. In fact it was quite pitiful that a band that helped shape the sound of bands like Nirvana, The Melvins and The Jesus Lizard could barely attract enough people to fill the dancefloor of The Manning Bar. By the end of the night there were less than one hundred punters in attendance. Shame on you Sydney!
